Scout Hot Sheet July 21-27: Carlos Santana

Carlos Santana hasn't played a single home game over the past week, but that just meant he got to take his act on tour, ripping apart the AL Central and leading the majors in seven offensive categories.

The only thing that the Cleveland IndiansCarlos Santana didn’t have this past week was a rippin’ guitar solo, but, over the last seven days, just like the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer of the same name, he was pure magic. Instead of a Gibson SG Special, though, this Santana was rocking some serious lumber, leading the majors in batting average (.556), home runs (6), slugging (1.333), total bases (36, with the next-most prolific being David Ortiz, with 25), extra-base hits and OPS (1.970).

The Cleveland first baseman also led the world in hits, with 15, including nine for extra-bases – also the most in the big leagues. Over the course of the past seven games, Santana has boosted his average from an anemic .205 to .232, notching at least one hit in each of his past seven games, and eight of his last 10 – all of those games on the road.

Santana has come up with multi-hit games in each of his past four games, and five of his past six, topped by a 4-for-5 game against division rival Minnesota on July 22, with one homer and two RBIs against the Twins. From there, he had a minor dip in the third game of the series, going just 1-for-4, before absolutely wearing out the Kansas City Royals over the next four days.

Santana scored at least one run in each of the four games against the Royals, scoring six of his eight runs on the week against them. He also went 9-for-14 in Kansas City, with two, two-home run games on July 25 and July 27, driving in eight runs.
