| Drafted with the twelfth overall pick in the 1994 amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox out of Georgia Tech. Captured 1997 American League Rookie of the Year and also pocketed the Silver Slugger Award. Came away with American League batting title in both 1999 (.357) and 2000 (.372). Was elected to start the All-Star game at Fenway Park in 1999. Five-time All-Star has finished in the top ten of the AL MVP voting five times. Second among active players with a .323 career average. |
