Organizational One-Stop: 4/23/08

It was a quiet day for Red Sox affiliates Tuesday as the Sea Dogs won, the JetHawks lost and the PawSox and Drive enjoyed a day off. Here’s the recap:

Red Sox: Another day, another comeback for the Sox, who shrugged off the absence of staff ace Josh Beckett and stormed back from a four-run deficit to edge the Angels, 7-6, in front of another sellout crowd of 37,982 at Fenway Park. It was the sixth straight win for the Sox and their third come-from-behind victory in four games. The Sox trailed 5-1 in the fourth, took a 6-5 lead in the sixth and scored once in the eighth after the Angels tied it in the top half of the frame. Dustin Pedroia’s fourth hit, an RBI double, scored Jacoby Ellsbury with the winning run in the eighth. Ellsbury enjoyed his first two-homer game as a major leaguer and finished with three hits while Manny Ramirez and Julio Lugo each had two hits for the Sox, who received a hit from every player in the starting lineup. Manny Ramirez had two RBI. David Pauley got the emergency start in place of Beckett, who was scratched due to a stiff neck, and retired the first six batters before he gave up three runs in the third and two in the fourth. He was pulled after 4 1/3 innings and gave up the five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in his first major league start since June 11, 2006. Mike Timlin earned the win by retiring the only batter he faced in the eighth and Jonathan Papelbon retired the side with two strikeouts to notch his eighth save. The Sox host the Angels again tonight, when Daisuke Matsuzaka is scheduled to start.

Triple-A Pawtucket: The PawSox were off Tuesday and host Syracuse tonight in the opener of a three-game series. Michael Tejera is scheduled to start for the PawSox.

Double-A Portland: Andrew Pinckney’s grand slam powered a five-run fifth inning and Kris Johnson earned his first Double-A win as the Sea Dogs cruised past New Hampshire, 11-3, in front of 4,616 at Hadlock Field in Portland, ME. Pinckney finished 3-for-5 with five RBI while Ryan Khoury was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, four RBI and a stolen base. He’s 6-for-8 in the Sea Dogs’ last two games. Jeff Corsaletti hit a solo homer earlier in the fifth while Bubba Bell also hit a solo homer. Sean Danielson, Sandy Madera and John Otness each had two hits. It was the third straight multi-hit game for Madera, who has a hit in each of his first six games with the Sea Dogs Johnson lasted a season-high 5 2/3 innings, during which he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out six. Jose Vaquedano struck out two and allowed one hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief as he lowered his ERA to 0.66. The Sea Dogs complete a three-game series against New Hampshire today, when Dustin Richardson is scheduled to take the mound.

Single-A Lancaster: Jason Place hit a homer leading off the first inning, but the JetHawks were blanked the rest of the way in a 4-1 loss to Modesto in front of 895 in Modesto, CA. Place was the only player with two hits for the JetHawks, who got just one runner as far as third base following Place’s homer. Jimmy James took the loss for the JetHawks after he allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings. Richie Lentz allowed one hit and one walk while whiffing three in two innings of relief. The JetHawks play the middle game of a three-game series at Modesto today, when Chris Jones is scheduled to start.

Single-A Greenville: The Drive were off Tuesday and will begin a six-game homestand tonight, when it hosts Asheville in the opener of a three-game series. Felix Doubront is scheduled to start.
