Sea Dogs Opening Day Roster: Pitchers

The Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of the Red Sox, announced their Opening Day roster Monday. The Sea Dogs are scheduled to open their season Thursday in New Britain, CT.

Michael Bowden: Went 10-6 with a 3.34 ERA in 27 starts between Single-A Lancaster and Portland last year…Ranked sixth in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Selected by the Sox out of an Illinois high school in the supplemental round of the 2005 draft…Will wear uniform number 44.

Daniel Haigwood: Went 4-5 with a 5.31 ERA in 19 games (18 starts) between Portland and the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red Sox last year…Will open this season in the bullpen…Ranked 37th in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Acquired by the Sox from the Rangers in exchange for Scott Shoemaker Apr. 19, 2007…Will wear uniform number 14.

Kyle Jackson: Went 4-9 with a 5.99 ERA and one save in 42 relief appearances for Portland last year…Selected by the Sox out of a New Hampshire high school in the 32nd round of the 2001 draft…Will wear uniform number 28.

Mike James: Went 2-3 with a 3.77 ERA and 22 saves—tops among Sox minor leaguers—for Portland last year…Leads Sox minor leaguers with 67 saves over the last four years…Ranked 42nd in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Selected by the Sox out of the University of Connecticut in the 28th round of the 2003 draft…Will wear uniform number 16.

Kris Johnson: Went 9-7 with a 5.56 ERA in 27 starts for Single-A Lancaster last year…Ranked 16th in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Selected by the Sox out of Wichita State in the supplemental round of the 2006 draft…Will wear uniform number 25.

Hunter Jones: Went 6-2 with a 2.62 ERA and two saves in 47 relief appearances between Single-A Lancaster and Double-A Portland last year…Ranked 21st in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Signed by the Sox as an undrafted free agent out of Florida State in 2005…Will wear uniform number 40.

Justin Masterson: Went 12-8 with a 4.33 ERA in 27 starts between Single-A Lancaster and Double-A Portland last year…Ranked third in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Selected by the Sox out of San Diego State in the second round of the 2006 draft…Will wear uniform number 35.

Chad Rhoades: Went 3-2 with a 4.34 ERA and 16 saves in 49 games at Single-A Lancaster last year…Ranked 43rd in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Signed by the Sox as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma Baptist University in 2006…Will wear uniform number 15.

Dustin Richardson: Went 9-7 with a 3.23 ERA in 25 starts between Single-A Greenville and Single-A Lancaster last year…Ranked 11th in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Selected by the Sox out of Texas Tech in the fifth round of the 2006 draft…Will wear uniform number 29.

Jose Vaquedano: Went 4-1 with a 4.57 ERA in 36 games (one start) between Single-A Lancaster and Double-A Portland last year…Also pitched in the Arizona Fall League following the season…Selected by the Sox out of Vernon Regional (TX) Junior College in the 35th round of the 2002 draft…Will wear uniform number 13.

Beau Vaughan: Went 1-3 with a 3.34 ERA and six saves in 42 games at Double-A Portland last year…Ranked 49th in Diehard’s 2008 prospect guide…Selected by the Sox out of Arizona State in the third round of the 2003 draft…Will wear uniform number 36.
