GM Scouting Report: SP, Jorge De La Rosa

SP, Jorge de la Rosa

Jorge De la Rosa signed with the Red Sox as a free agent during the 2001 off-season. He was originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, but signed with the Sox after bouncing around their organization for a few seasons. The 22 year old lefty is from Monterey, Mexico and has tried a couple different roles already in his professional career. He started as a reliever, but since he was switched to a starter before the 2002 season, he has become much more effective.

De la Rosa had a very successful 2003 campaign as he established himself as a top level prospect in the Sox system. The fireballer was voted the pitcher of the year for Portland by the Red Sox organization. His 2.98 combined ERA between Portland and Pawtucket positioned him second in the system and his 119 K's ranked him third. He was named to the Eastern League All-Star team and his dominance...
