The Pittsburgh Pirates have revised their two-year agreement with left-hander Francisco Liriano.

Liriano will now assume the risk to the injury to his right arm suffered shortly after a $12.75 million deal was agreed upon in December. The 29-year-old will simply make a lesser salary in 2013 if the fracture somehow limits him.

According to the Dominican newspaper El Caribe, Liriano fractured his non-throwing arm after taking a tumble in his bathroom.

The injury was reportedly to the humerus bone in Liriano’s upper right arm. Accoding to El Caribe, a “source close to the player” said that Liriano’s right arm is currently in a cast. However, he is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season since the injury was not to his throwing arm.

The pitcher has a career record of 53-54, including seasons of 12-3 in 2006 and 14-10 in 2010, both with Minnesota.

Liriano is expected to fill a spot in the middle of the Pittsburgh rotation, behind A.J. Burnett and left-hander Wandy Rodriguez and ahead of James McDonald.
