Brisbane Bandits centerfielder Hirotoshi Onaka raised his Australian Baseball League batting average to .366 after belting two doubles in three at-bats on Saturday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's winterball action in the Texas Rangers' system.
Dominican Winter League
Licey outfielders
Leonys Martin
(0/4) and
Engel Beltre
(0/2, 2 BB) both went hitless on Friday, though Beltre did draw a pair of walks. Beltre also stole his seventh base of the winterball campaign.
Venezuelan Winter League
Tigres de Aragua second baseman
Yangervis Solarte
, who batted second on Saturday, had two singles and two walks in six trips. He also drove home a run while raising his winterball batting average to .275.
Entering as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning of a lopsided affair, Lara utility man
Guilder Rodriguez
singled in his only plate appearance.
Mexican Pacific League
No Rangers appeared in Mexico on Saturday.
Puerto Rican Winter League
The Leones de Ponce fell to 4-13 after dropping another game to Manati on Saturday. Ponce designated hitter
Jorge Alfaro
singled once and struck out once in his four at-bats.
Right-hander Alex de la Cruz, who finished the game on the mound for Ponce, worked around a hit in an otherwise clean ninth inning.
Australian Baseball League
After sitting out the first game of Brisbane’s doubleheader on Saturday, centerfielder
Hirotoshi Onaka
was back in the lineup for the nightcap. The Japanese leadoff hitter provided the bulk of his club’s offense by going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. He also walked twice and drove home a run.
The strong performance raised Onaka’s batting average to a team-leading .366 on the Australian Baseball League campaign.
